A Press Conference has been scheduled at the Hilton Hotel, Istanbul, Turkey with Orthodox/Catholic hierarchal representatives prior to the arrival of Pope Benedict XVI to Istanbul to meet His All Holiness Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch. The conference will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 in the Press Center located in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel.
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America will be representing the Ecumenical Patriarchate and His Eminence Monsignor Brian Farrell will represent the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity at the Press Conference.
This press conference is open to media who have obtained proper media credentials from the Republic of Turkey and the Holy See / Ecumenical Patriarchate hosts. A question and answer session will follow remarks by both hierarchs.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the spiritual leader of Orthodox Christians worldwide will welcome Pope Benedict XVI on November 29 – December 1, 2006, for the occasion of the feast day of St. Andrew the Apostle, who travelled across Asia Minor and is the founder of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, the former name for present-day Istanbul.
