Nectarius

St Nectarius was native of Tarsus of Kilikia, divine and holy in his life, and politically high-ranked. In the 2nd Ecumenical Council, after the resignation of St Gregory the Theologian and the condemnation of the heretical Patriarch Maximus, he was unanimously elected by the people, the clergy and the emperor Theodosius, Patriarch of Constantinople, eventhough he was a layman and, in fact, not yet baptised. Having shepherded the Church in great devoutness, he completed his life peacefully. The following Patriarch Arsacius was also from Tarsus, and was a brother of Nectarius.

His memory is kept on the 11th of October.
