PRAYER FOR THE RETURN OF THE HOLY RELICS

Lord, Master, Omnipotent One, worshipful Holy Trinity, glorious through Your Saints, You have adorned Your Church by the treasure of Your uncreated Grace. Furthermore, by Your holy apostle Andrew, the first called disciple, You have elected and founded this local Church, honoring her with the Ecumenical throne and offering her as a gift to Your Churches in order to hold the leading-see among them, as they are all equal, united in brotherly love. Furthermore, for the sake of Your dearly loved Church, You founded our spiritual Fathers on earth as luminaries glittering divine light! Hence, we, Your humble and unworthy servants, in this gladdening and joyful day filled with sacredness, implore You to accept our thanks offered to You out of ineffable gratitude, as the holy relics of our holy fathers and ecumenical luminaries, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, archbishops of this see, are returning from Rome to this, the Queen City, magnified by God.

Lord, by the incarnation of Your Divine Logos, You honored our corruptible nature, and by the glorious Ascension to heaven, deified our humble being assumed by Him. Thus, our nature assumed by Him is a temple of the Holy Spirit; His dwelling place is in us, as we have received Him in our Holy Baptism. Accordingly, following the teachings of our holy fathers, we honor the relics of all saints as dwellings filled with the Grace of the Holy Spirit, hence never departing from them. In honoring them, we are glorifying You, the loving provider of the saving sanctification in Christ Jesus.

Lord, bending our knees with appreciation and gratefulness before the precious arks of the relics of our holy predecessors, we implore and cry out from the depths of our souls and minds: Look down from heaven and behold, sustain and strengthen this vineyard, the Church of Constantinople, which You planted by the holy apostle Andrew, the first called, and watered by the Spirit-flowing teachings of the great Hierarchs, Gregory the Theologian, John Chrysostom and other holy shepherds, and fed her with their pastoral self-offering!

Furthermore, we implore You, now, that this Church is being crucified, humbled by numerous afflictions, and seized by tribulations, cheer her up by the vigorous intercessions of these her shepherds, who physically came back home today after an absence of many centuries. By their prayers, encourage this Your Church, o Lord, telling her: "Little children, be of good cheer, I have overcome the world, and I will be with you all the days of your life. The gates of Hades shall not prevail against my Bride, the Church."

All-Holy Trinity, sanctify us with the gift of Your inalienable sanctity, so that we will become holy, children and imitators of these our most-holy Fathers. Fill us with the light of Your Holy Spirit, so that as sons of light and of the day we will inherit Your heavenly Kingdom, so that with the invincible champion, the Lady Theotokos, and with all the saints we will glorify Your most precious and magnificent name, of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
