THE NEW APOLYTIKIA
WRITTEN BY METROPOLITAN EVANGELOS OF PERGE

Mode 1

Behold, the mystic of God and the preacher of dogmas, Gregory the mind and the glory of theology, is coming to comfort us in the Tent of his body; for he is our fellow-citizen from long ago; and he stood and spoke before this very Synthronon, as a divine treasure.

Mode pl. 4

The Church once more rejoices splendidly on the occasion of the arrival of your holy Relic to the City that you worthily shepherded; and she glorifies the heavenly Giver, O Father John Chrysostom, and she cries to you: Behold your throne, O Holy One.

THE TRADITIONAL APOLYTIKIA

Mode 1

The shepherd's pipe of your theology overpowered the trumpets of the orators; for as you delved into the depths of the Spirit, so you were endowed with the power of eloquence. O Father Gregory, intercede with Christ God, that our souls be saved.

Mode pl. 4

The grace that from your mouth shone forth like a torch illumined the universe.
Treasures from the absence of avarice it deposited in the world.
It showed us the height [that is attained by] humility.
Now you instruct us by your words, Father John Chrysostom.
Intercede with Christ God, the Word himself,
entreating that our souls be saved.
